Famiglia oriunda spagnuola passata a Napoli con Giovanni Assenzio, al seguito di re Carlo di Borbone. Fece egli parte del Consiglio di Reggenza durante la minore età di re Ferdinando IV; fu ministro segretario di Stato, tenente generale della Real Marina, sopraintendente generale della Giunta degli Abusi, della Giunta del Lotto e dell'Azienda generale della Gran Dogana del regno. Venne decorato dell'Ordine della Concezione di Spagna e dell'insigne real Ordine di S. Gennaro. Con decreto del Senato di Catania del 20 luglio 1778 fu reintegrato alla Mastra nobile di quella città quale discendente di Ugone de Guzzetta, la cui famiglia trasmigrò nelle Spagne alla fine del sec. XIII. Nel 1775 ottenne il titolo di marchese infisso nel 1779 sul predicato di Toverena dal feudo di Toberenea posseduto dalla famiglia in Ispagna.
