The family who left Aquileja at the time of Attila's raids, settled in Grado, who built and took its name. It was one of the 24 houses that established the Venetian patrician nobility and one of the 12 that voted for the election of the first doge. This family counts three doges, many procurators of St. Mark, patriarchs, bishops, prelates, generals, senators, ambassadors, knights. He branched off into the island of Candia, where he was powerful. They deserve special mention: Marco, of Bartolomeo, who in 1263 as captain general recovered the island of Negroponte and broke the Genoese near Trapani; in 1265 he was ambassador to the Pope and the same year he was podestà and captain of the Guelphs in Modena. In 1267 general of 29 galleys defeated the Genoese army of Acri di Soria. Pietro di Marco was elected doge of Venice on 25 November. 1288, waged war against the Genoese, Ferrarese, Paduan, reformed the main council in 1297 and destroyed the conspiracy Tiepolo Querini; died on August 13, 1311. Anna, his daughter, was the wife of Giacomo da Carrara, lord of Padua. Bartolomeo, di Angelo, was elected doge on 7 Sept. 1339 and died on December 28th. 1342. Giovanni, called Nasone, of Marino, elected doge in 1355, died in 1356. Branch known as Rio Mari: Bartolomeo I Girolamo, of Bartolomeo I Pietro, had the confirmation of the nobility with Sovereign Austrian Resolution 30 November 1817 and was elevated to rank of AI count with Austrian Sovereign Resolution 29 September 1818.
