Ancient Parma family, originating from a fraction of the municipality of Corniglio, where it exercised feudal jurisdiction. In 1265 he moved to Bellagio, on Lake Como, and remained there until 1600, in which year one of his branches moved to Milan. The same branch, in 1633, passed to Trento where it was ascribed among those noble citizens. In Trento the Emperor Ferdinand III, with diploma 11 April 1656, conferred the hereditary nobility of the Empire to Giampietro Gramatica, with his sons Virgilio and Simone. From the same Emperor he also obtained to combine the arms of the family with the arms of Austria. The family also passed through S. Michele d'Adige, then to Brescia, Chiavari and finally to Genoa.
