Die Franken gaben der Familie Grandoni eine Vinciprova von Ghisiliero, 1219 und 1222 Arbeiter von S. Jacopo. Ein Grandoni de 'Ghisilieri, 1080 in Pistoia geboren und in Pisa wohnhaft, wurde 1114 von den Pisanern mit dem Kommando einer großen Marinearmee betraut , mit dem er die Balearen eroberte, indem er die Sarazenen vertrieb. Der Name Grandoni scheint ein Spitzname gewesen zu sein, der für seine hohe Statur gegeben wurde und der später von den Nachkommen als Eigenname in Erinnerung an die Herrlichkeit des Vorfahren übernommen wurde: Aus einem Instrument vom November 1222 geht hervor, dass ein Grandoni Ghisilieri von Passalacqua und Guittoncino, seine Brüder, hundert Pisaner Lire für seinen Teil des väterlichen Hauses in Pistoia. Später wurde dieser Name im Nachnamen festgelegt, da er zu dieser Zeit leicht und häufig verwendet wurde.
