Antica ed illustre famiglia, originatasi per la fusione di due importantissimi casati: quello degli Scribani e quello dei Greco. Girolamo e Giovanni-Ambrogio Scribani, provenienti da Genova, si stabilirono in Sicilia per attendere ad affari di regia corte. Il secondo, morto nel 1665 possedè la terra baronale di Montagnareale, in val Demone. La famiglia Greco, invece, è di quelle di più antica e distinta nobiltà della città di Carpi (Prov. di Modena), che ebbe sempre le maggiori cariche civili e militari, e se ne hanno notizie sicure dal 1311. Passata poi la famiglia a Reggio Emilia fu iscritta anche alla nobiltà reggina. Ebbe grandi ricchezze, con vasti tenimenti in varie parti della provincia e specialmente a Rivalta, in comune di Reggio Emilia, in una località detta Rivaltella, che aveva nel centro una villa. alla quale si accedeva mediante un ponte in ferro, appositamente costruito dal conte Luigi Corbelli.
