Questa famiglia fu ascritta alla nobiltà fiorentina nel 1831 per giustizia nelle persone dei fratelli Luca, maggiore Comandante la piazza di Livorno, Giulio, capitano Quartier Mastro di artiglieria e Tommaso Ispettore Generale dell'Amministrazione del bollo e Registro di Roma, i quali ottennero di esser riconosciuti come discendenti da Leonardo di Agnolo, orafo per la Maggiore al Priorato della Repubblica Fiorentina nel 1391. Altro ramo. Originaria di Pisa, le sue memorie in Genova rimontano al 1330. Ascritta nel Grillo nel 1528. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. Spaccato d'oro e d'azzurro, al grifo dell'uno all'altro e dell'uno nell'altro. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
