Nobilissimo casato siciliano, detto Grignani o Grignano, che il Villabianca sostiene discendere dall'omonima famiglia francese, il quale godette nobiltà in Trapani ed in Marsala. La famiglia, la quale possedette il titolo di conte di S. Carlo, la tonnara del Palazzo in Trapani e la salina di Ripa di mare in Marsala,nel corso dei secoli, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Stefano, nel 1411, ambasciatore di Marsala presso la regina Bianca; Antonio, il quale combatté quale milite di re Alfonso, ottenendo con privilegio del 8 gennaio 1450 la carica a vita di capitano di giustizia in Marsala ed il titolo di "regio milite"; Giovanni-Antonio, giurato di Marsala nel 1498; Onofrio, senatore di Trapani, negli anni 1527-28, 1531-32, 1535-36 e 1538-39; Antonino, che tenne la stessa carica nel 1546-47; Antonio, proconservatore in Marsala nel 1591; altro Antonino prefetto di Marsala, nel 1694-95
