The Grisone or Grifone family is a branch of the ancient Ravello family, which, in the time of the Count Ruggiero founder of the Monarchy, had two Admirals and many knights. According to many authors, it is believed to be of Roman origin, descended from Rutilio Ruffo, founder of the Military Tribunes. The R. family was divided into three main branches which were called R. de 'Gigli, R. delle Stelle and R. de' Vairi or Vaj from which the Grisone family originated from which the possession of the fiefdoms of Ajeta and Tortora the two families of this name originated. The family enjoyed nobility in Naples in the Seggio di Nido, in Ravello, in Giovinazzo, in Molfetta, and in Scala, owned the fief of Torella, and died out completely. Monuments can be seen of it in Naples in the churches of S. Domenico Maggiore and S. Agostino, and in Ravello
