Ancient and noble German family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. According to records, the family was originally known as Grosskurth. The surname has changed over time up to the current Grotecoerdes, although the Grotecordt form was also attested for a long time. We must therefore consider of the same lineage: the pastor and member of parliament Wilhelm Großkurth (April 26, 1808 in Meineringhausen; † August 4, 1875 in Arolsen), son of the landowner Christoph Friedrich Großkurth, and his brother Ferdinand Großkurth (1802– 1877), landowner and politician. In any case, the first references to this family are very ancient.
