La famiglia del Principe di Carini, è veramente Talamanca, e si prese il cognome per vincolo di successione del Stato di Carini, acquistato d'Ubertino la G. cavalier Catalano. Però la Talamanca è una delle principali famiglie della Provintia di Catalogna, e passò indi in Sicilia col Rè Pietro d'Aragona nel 1282: il primo di lei fù Uberto Talamanca, c'havendosi parimente impiegato a' servigi del Rè Federico II, fù da quello eletto Baglijo, over Pretore di Palermo nel 1302 del Signore, e n'hebbe anche alcune Baronie, che gli successero i suoi figli Federico, e Matteo. Federico hebbe il medesmo ufficio di Baglijo, over Pretore nel 1346. Matteo fù gran cavaliero, e per il suo valore ottenne del medesmo Rè nel 1334 la città, e castello di Naro col feudo della Delia; il cui figlio Pirrone, oltre della confirma de' predetti, hebbe del Rè Federico III il Marchesato dell'Isola di Malta, il
