Originaria della Catalogna, pare che sia passata in Sicilia nel sec. XIV. Un Ubertino fu capitano di giustizia di Palermo nel 1336-37; un Roberto fu pretore della stessa città nel 1372-73; un altro Ubertino fu capitano giustiziere di Palermo nel 1396, a 26 agosto 1397 ottenne la concessione della terra di Carini, nel 1397 coprì la carica di giustiziere del Val di Mazzara, fu secreto di Palermo e maestro razionale del Regno e con privilegio dato in Catania a 18 dic. 1392 aveva ottenuto concessione della terra di Palagonia. Ebbe unica figlia Ilaria La Grua e Imperatore, che sposò Gilberto Talamanca, nobile catalano, nella famiglia del quale trasmise il feudo di Carini, con l'obbligo di anteporre al cognome Talamanca il cognome La Grua, sicchè da questo momento tutti gli individui di cui parlerò non appartengono più alla famiglia La Grua ma alla famiglia Talamanca, ma, siccome in tutti gli atti
