La famiglia venne da Genova in Sicilia nel 1496; Pietro G. fermandosi nella città di Messina diede principio alla sua casa in Sicilia. Da Pietro G. nè pervennero Giovanni, Antonio, e Filippo, i quali co' carichi di Capitano, e di Giurato governarono la città di Castroreale: così parimente i loro posteri. Altro ramo. Originaria di Genova, trapiantata in Sicilia da un Pietro, che prese stanza in Messina. Giovanni, Antonio e Filippo furono capitani e giurati. Poche sono le città, che vantino famiglie nobili si antiche come quelle in Genova, poichè malgrado le vicende dei tempi essa conta ancora nel suo seno molte famiglie che provano la loro genealogia da padre in figlio mercè gli atti notarili dalla metà del XII secolo fino a' giorni nostri, vale a dire da un'epoca che serva di barriera a quasi tutte le famiglie d'Europa.
