Dell'Illustre famiglia dei Geremei, prese il nome da un Buvalello, zio di Baruffaldino condottiero di Crociati nel XII secolo, verso la fine del quale e in principio del susseguente i Buvalelli tennero in patria quattro volte il consolato, e furono degli anziani sino al 1368. Partigiani dei loro consorti, si azzuffarono coi Lambertazzi nel 1248. Appartiene a questa casa il famoso trovatore Rambertino e Lambertino, detto talvolta anche Buarello o Bovarello, il quale lasciò parecchie canzoni scritte in rime provenziali. Egli, oltre esser poeta, era un abile politico ed un accorto amministratore, perlochè nel 1201 fu chiamato pretore a Brescia, quindi podestà a Milano, Mantova e Parma, e condusse le milizie di quest'ultima città a Pontedusolo per vedicare il parmigiano Vicedomini che vi era stato ucciso in un'agguato, mentr'era podestà di Modena. Andò poi pretore a Genova e fu per due volte riconfermato in quest'ufficio. Finalmente fu chiamato dai Modenesi
