Questa antica ed illustre famiglia trae la sua origine da Bologna, ove è ricordata fino dal 976 da dove se ne allontanò per civili discordie, come seguace della fazione dei Lambertazzi. Se ne stabilì un ramo a Ferrara reso celebre da Giovambattista autore del Pastor Fido, ed ivi estinto nel 1745; mentre un altro si rifugiò in Forlì nel 1172 con Pietro di Taldo, detto il pacifico, imparentandosi poscia con le più nobili e cospicue prosapie di quella città. Giacomo di Pietro ebbe luogo in consiglio nel 1212 e ad altro Pietro fu nel 1405 concesso dal Senato Forlivese di adottare lo stemma del Comune, aggiungendovi tre fascie nere, in luogo dell'antico che la famiglia innalzava in Bologna cioè d'azzurro al toro furioso d'oro, collarinato di rosso. Paolo filosofo, storico, poeta e guerriero, scrisse gli annali di Forlì dal 1375 al 1473 e diresse il lavoro delle trincee intorno alla
