I genealogisti Ganduccio e Giscardi dicono questa famiglia originaria dal territorio di Novi, passata ad Arenzano e stabilitasi parte in Spagna e parte a Genova. Ricordiamo Martino, consigliere del Comune nel 1174 e che nel 1206 sottoscrisse ai patti fra i genovesi e i marchesi Malaspina. Antonio, pure Consigliere nel 1184. Gaspare, Consigliere e partitore delle avarie (1427-1428). Nicolò, anziano nel 1522; Bartolomeo, anziano nel 1524 e nel 1528. Nel 1509 erano iscritti fra gli Artifices albi: Giovanni Battista e Nicolò. Fiorì verso la fine del XVII sec. Giulio Guastavino, che fu a detta del Soprani, medico incomparabile, anatomista esattissimo; nel 1509 fu chiamato dal Granduca di Toscana ad insegnar medicina all'Università di Pisa. Scrisse oltre che di materia medica, di soggetti vari in prosa e in versi, in latino e in italiano, sotto il nome accademico di Filodosso. Nel 1528 furono ascritti all'albergo Pinelli.
