La famiglia è una delle più antiche e nobili di Pergola, e dette alla patria illustri personaggi. Essa nel sec. XVII fu aggregata alla nobiltà di Gubbio nella persona di Giovanni Battista che ivi ricoprì anche la primaria carica di Gonfaloniere. Ciò risulta anche da una relazione inviata il 26 luglio 1776 dalla Magistratura di Gubbio al sovrano ordine gerosolimitano (Malta) da presentarsi al Capitolo Generale da tenersi a Roma in detto anno. La famiglia aggiunge il cognome della estinta nobile fam. Marini di Pergola e ne inquarta lo stemma; e ciò perchè il nobile Alessandro Marini ultimo di sua fam. con testamento rogato il 13 giugno 1718 dal notaio di Pergola Fulgenzio Merlini, chiamò erede del nome, dello stemma e del patrimonio, il nobile Carlo con tutti i suoi discendenti maschi in infinito: ebbe egli per moglie Margherita dei Conti Salvioni di Iesi.
