Famille ombrienne ancienne et notable, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie, avec d'importantes colonies en Lombardie-Vénétie. Selon ce qui nous est transmis, il descend de la noble famille Gabrielli, qui a eu pendant une courte période le domaine de la ville de Gubbio et était en fait également connue sous le nom de Gubbio. L'une de ses branches passa à Rome et y jouissit du titre princier mais certaines branches continuèrent à prospérer en Ombrie, prenant différents noms de famille, dont celui de Gubbiotti ou Gubbiotto. Il faut en effet noter que la forme originelle du patronyme n'est pas toujours restée intacte au fil des siècles avec son écriture primitive. Souvent à cause de transcriptions erronées, de transformations dialectales selon les régions où la lignée s'est peu à peu portée, de l'écriture incompréhensible des scribes, etc., il y a eu des changements
