Ancient and illustrious family, which can boast, as progenitor that Guido, grandson of Emperor Otto I, who descended from Germany to Italy in the year of the Lord 948, and who was created, for his valiant deeds Count of Modigliana, and of Romagna. From his descendants, therefore, many glorious branches of the Guido family sprouted, in the Romagna area, then spreading in Lombardy, and particularly in Tuscany.
