Cette famille, pendant plusieurs siècles, a eu le lieu de son principal établissement en Bretagne. Elle compte au nombre de ses membres les seigneurs de Kerguiffinan (paroisse de Loctudy). Une branche de cette maison s'est établie en Picardie et a produit plusieurs personnages dignes de mémoire. On signale dans le nombre: Léonard, seigneur d'Hardivilliers, près Roye, auditeur des comptes de Paris, père de Madeleine, dame d'Hardivilliers, mariée à Charles Barentin, président aux comptes de Paris en 1640. On remarque plusieurs alliances importantes avec des maisons illustres de Picardie et Bretagne. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique, l'assurance d'une valeur remarquable. Il est fort difficile, pour ne pas dire impossible, de réunir en faisceau toutes les tiges éparses de cette maison.
