Ancient and noble German family, originally from Bavaria, of clear and ancestral virtue, which first branched out in Switzerland from whence it then spread all over the world. The vastness of this family is also testified by the presence of its many branches in some of the most important heraldry books, such as the "Armorial général" by JB Rietstap, a monumental work that contains the blazons of the coats of arms of more than 130,000 European families, and "Johann Siebmachers allgemeines großes und vollständiges Wappenbuch", a heraldic multivolume book series of coats of arms of the nobility of the Holy Roman Empire. In Bavaria this noble family had its main residence in the city of Ingolstadt, where its members always had the privilege of occupying the highest city offices.
