Antica ed illustre famiglia tedesca, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni europee ed americane. Ascritti all'antica nobiltà germanica degli Uradel, alla fine del secolo XIII, da Carlo IV (1346-1378), i membri di cotal famiglia ebbero la concessione dell'uso dell'arme. Tra i primi personaggi che resero splendore al casato, in ogni modo, tra tutti, spicca un Udalrich, cospicuo in Hessen, nel 1440, ricordato quale chiaro e saggio giureconsulto. Successivamente, la famiglia si divise in vari rami. Uno fiorì in Boemia, con un Roderich, familiare di Giovanni, re di boemia, dal quale fu nominato, in ricompensa dei grandi servigi prestati, cavaliere; un altro si stabilì in Vienna, illustrandosi, tra i molti, con quel Lars, vivente nel 1719, generale di cavalleria, sotto Carlo VI; uno, assai cospicuo, si stabilì in Alsazia ed un altro, infine, pose dimora nel Tirolese e nel Lombardo-Veneto.
