Famiglia comitale mediatizzata di Austria e Boemia, la cui filiazione provata rimonta a Thierry di Harrach (1309) che possedeva beni feudali in Alta Austria. Barone di Rohrau negli Stati ereditari di Austria 12 aprile 1550, barone del Sacro Romano Impero 4 gennaio 1552; Gran Scudiero Ereditario d'Austria 29 maggio 1559; Gran Palatinato di Vienna 25 agosto 1625; Conte del Sacro Romano Impero e creazione di Rohrau in contea 20 luglio 1627. Nel 1731 un ramo di questa famiglia venne aggregato al Seggio di Porto a Napoli, nella persona del conte Luigi Harrach, Vicerè di Napoli per l'Imperatore d'Austria, ed iscritto in seguito al Libro d'Oro della Nobiltà Napoletana. Esso è rappresentato dal conte Giovanni Alberto Harrach, patrizio napoletano, n. a Firenze 11 febb. 1873, figlio del conte Ferdinando (27 febb. 1832, dec. 14 febb. 1915) e della contessa Elena de Pourtalés, capit. nell'esercito tedesco, spos. a Monaco di Baviera il
