Questa parola, dice Mugnos, è una corruzione di Focesfalce. Detta Hozes, Hoces o Hozzes la famiglia vuolsi fiorita in Aragona e Castiglia, ne' quali regni vanta illustri personaggi, che per brevità si tralascia; epperò è da notare un Don Alonzo de H. venuto in Sicilia 1558, conservatore del tribunale del R. Patrimonio, maestro razionale di cappa e spada 1569, avendo in quest'ufficio servito per trentacinque anni, e contemporaneamente in altri come vicario generale, di generale della squadra delle galere, ecc. Un don Maurizio fu senatore di Messina 1643. furono cavalieri gerosolimitani un frà Filippo 1579, frà Francesco 1630, frà Tommaso 1641 commendatore e balì di Lora, cavaliere della Stella, e onorato di varie ambasciate. Il detto frà Francesco fu senatore di Messina 1624 e principe dell'ordine de' Cavalieri della Stella 1647. Altro ramo. Originaria di Aragona, trapiantata in Sicilia da Alonzo di Hozes nel 1558, conservatore del tribunale del R.
