Per il matrimonio di Maria Antonia Paternò (figlia di Giuseppe e di Agatimna Gioeni; il Giuseppe figlio di Vincenzo Benedetto Paternò, ultimo investito dei titoli di duca di Furnari e barone di Ficarazzi) con Gaetano, i titoli di duca di Furnari e barone di Ficarazzi passarono nella suddetta dinastia. Antonio e Paternò, duca dei Furnari, fu ammiraglio e collaborò alla compilazione della carta idrografica dell'adriatico, e morì senza eredi. Con Decreto Ministeriale del 15 settembre 1899 i titoli di duca di Furnari e barone di Ficarazzi vennero riconosciuti in persona di Francesco e Paternò, nato a Napoli a 7 dicembre 1827. Fu questi padre di Gaetano, nato in Palermo a 7 agosto 1862, duca di Furnari e barone di Ficarazzi, cavaliere dell'ordine della Corona d'Italia e dei SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro, che sposò in Catania a 25 aprile 1900 Eleonora Scuto ed è padre di Elena, nata in Catania
