Questa nobile e chiara famiglia corrottamente denominata fra noi I., a dir di Mugnos e del Minutoli fiorì ne' regni di Castiglia e di Valenza; e portata venne in Sicilia da un Antonio I. cavaliere valenzano, e di cui figli furono a servigi di re Martino 1392. Un secondo Antonio si stabilì in Genova, rendendosi progenitore della famiglia I. di Genova, e due suoi figli Pietro e Giovanni passarono in Modica col carico di governatori 1486. Commendansi: un Francesco maestro razionale della Camera Reginale della regina Bianca stabilendosi in Siracusa; un Paolo di lui figlio capitano della milizia in detta città 1485; altro Paolo barone di s. Giacomo Belmineo, quindi progenitore de' baroni di san Giacomo e del Burgio; un Tommaso investito di detti titoli 1680, castellano di Noto, percettore regio del vallo, ed erede per la madre Landolini de' feudi di Buxello, Ragalcia, Spinagallo, Berausi e Cadedi.
