Famiglia illustre e storica allo stesso tempo, però come dice Mugnos proveniente da Pisa; dapoichè un Giovanni I. gentiluomo pisano la condusse a Palermo ai servigi di re Federico II. Un Ubertino ebbe concesso il feudo de' Ficarazzi 1441 e fu senatore di Palermo; altro Giovanni di lui figlio due volte pretore di detta città 1485-92. Un Pompilio capitano giustiziere 1520, pretore 1526, non poco adoperossi a sedare i disturbi prodotti dalla famosa congiura di Gianluca Squarcialupo contro i fautori del Moncada, benchè suoi tre fratelli fossero stati complici. Un Giulio Cesare successe nelle baronie di Pellizzaro, Garescio e Bulfara, e fu più volte senatore di Palermo. Qui il Villabianca fa riflettere che per particolare disposizione testamentaria i di lui eredi e successori assumer doveano con ordine numerico lo specioso nome di Giulio Cesare I. Tra' cavalieri Gerosolimitano si trova un frà Baldassare priore di Capua, generale della squadra gerosolimitana
