Famiglia illustre e storica allo stesso tempo, detta Imperatore, Imperatori o, in alcuni antiche carte, Imperatrice, al dir del Mugnos, proveniente da Pisa. Giovanni I, gentiluomo ai servigi di Re Federico II, fu il di lei primo a condurla in Palermo. Ivi, tal casato, mai smise di darsi lustro, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Ubertino, che ebbe concesso il feudo de' Ficarazzi, nel 1441, e che fu senatore di Palermo; altro Giovanni, di lui figlio, due volte pretore di detta città, nel 1485-92; Pompilio, capitano giustiziere nel 1520, pretore nel 1526, il quale non poco si adoperò nel sedare i disturbi prodotti dalla famosa congiura di Gianluca Squarcialupo, contro i fautori del Moncada, benchè suoi tre fratelli fossero stati complici; Giulio Cesare, il quale successe nelle baronie di Pellizzaro, Garescio e Bulfara, più volte senatore di Palermo.
