Illustre famiglia di origine Aleramica. Bonifacio del Vasto, marchese di Savoia, ebbe della sua consorte Alice figlia di Pietro I di Savoia, otto figli fra i quali Manfredi, stipite dei marchesi di Saluzzo, Guglielmo, stipite dei marchesi di Busca, Enrico, stipite dei marchesi Del Carretto e Bonifacio. Quest'ultimo essendosi ribellato e avendo preso le armi contro suo padre, fu diseredato dal suo genitore con testamento del 5 ott. 1125. Bonifacio passò nel Napoletano e diventò stipite dei conti di Gravina. Fu suo figlio Alberto il quale nel 1157 è menzionato col titolo di conte di Gravina in una conferma di donazione al monastero di Cava. Nel 1174 Alberto fece ritorno in Piemonte, dove si intitolò marchese. Sposò Domicella dei Signori di Rocchetta Tanaro, e da questo matrimonio nacquero, fra gli altri, Alberto, Guglielmo e Oppizzone.
