Es una rama de la familia Volterara del mismo nombre, que fue heredera de la Fei para que Giuseppe di Giovanni Jacopo Fei se casara con Francesca. Los Fei también eran una antigua familia de Volterra que disfrutaba de los primeros honores de esta ciudad desde el siglo XVI. La bibliografía de esta familia es mencionada por el marqués Vittorio Spreti, en su Enciclopedia Histórica-Noble italiana impresa en Milán en 1936. Recopilando manuscritos de contenido heráldico y noble-genealógico, entre bibliotecas y en muchos archivos públicos y privados. Los testimonios y documentos recopilados para la formación del trabajo en cuestión fueron transmitidos por la propia familia. Como se muestra en la Revista Heráldica editada por el Colegio Heráldico de Roma.
