Ebbero origine da un gentiluomo conosciuto sotto il nome di Vezio, il quale fino dai primi giorni della fondazione di Alessandria venne a stabilirsi nella nuova città. I suoi discendenti si dissero dapprima Viziati, e poi Inviziati e si schierarono fra le famiglie ghibelline del Comune. Propagaronsi in molte città d'Italia, come in Torino, in Ferrara, in Venezia, in Roma ed altrove. Presero parte alla crociata del 1188: nel 1533 alloggiarono nel loro palazzo l'imperator Carlo V, ed ottennero la cittadinanza milanese e parmense. Archelao Inviziati inspettor generale delle truppe pontificie sotto il Pontefice Pio V; Alberto, celebre giureconsulto del secolo XVI; Baldassarre capitano valente del secolo XIV; Giacomo-Luigi podestà di Asti; Guglielmo podestà di Piacenza; Lelio protonotario apostolico, conte palatino e cameriere segreto di Pio V; Raffaele Vescovo di Cefalonia e di Zante e Nunzio Pontificio presso la Repubblica di Venezia; Vincenzo senatore di Torino nel 1320. Estinta nel 1857 nella persona del marchese Carlo che lasciò erede del nome e delle sostanze sue il Conte Annibale Civalieri di Alessandria. Motto della famiglia: Hinc generosa propago.
