Due nobili fratelli borgognoni, Frisco ed Obizzo, nel 1007 scesero in Italia coll'Imperat. Enrico II per aiutare il papa Benedetto VIII, cui Roma negava semmessione. Ottenuto lo scopo, l'Imperat. tornò in Alemagna e lasciò in Italia i due fratelli con molti fanti e cavalieri quali suoi vicari, l'uno in Genova e l'altro in Toscana. Dal primo stabilito in Genova originò la famiglia dei Fieschi, ed Obizzo, fissata stabile dimora in Lucca, vi fu stipite della potente famiglia, e che in progresso di tempo giunse a farsi signora e padrona di Lucca dal 1250 al 1314, e godette molti castelli e feudi, quali Moriano, Montegarullo, Orciano, e Civorio in Romagna.
