Antica e nobile famiglia di Trani. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Nelle sue Cronache di Vincenzo Massila, sulle famiglie nobili di Bari, scritta nell'anno 1567, ed ora per la prima volta messa in luce con note, giunte e documenti, stampato in Napoli nello stabilimento tipografico dell'unione nel 1881. Che la famiglia abbia un'origine molto antica, non v'ha dubbio.
