In Asti furono antichissimi, e presero il nome dal castello donde venivano. E' memoria di Rodolfo, vivente nel 1117, padre di Angelino (1181), il cui figlio, Ardizzone fu investito da questo cognome nel marzo 1237. Antichi furono pure in Fossano, ed erano una delle dodici famiglie di piazza che godevano gli onori dell'asta del baldacchino e della casa coi merli. A questi di Fossano il Turletti vorrebbe attaccare la fondatrice delle Rosine, Rosa Govone (Rosa Govone, Torino, 1875). Nel 1712 Giorgio (dec. 1728), segretario di Stato e finanze, presentò i documenti al R. Blasonatore, avvocato e ingegnere Antonio Bertola, il quale il 19 ottobre ne dichiarò l'autenticità, e il Senato di Piemonte con declaratoria del 7 febb. 1713 dichiarò che la famiglia era una delle antiche e nobili famiglie della città di Fossano, ed il supplicante agnato e legittimo discendente di Bernardo.
