Antica ed assai nobile famiglia napoletana, di chiara ed avita virtù, conosciuta come Iulia, Iula, de Iuliis o, in Calabria, Julia o de Giulia mentre in Genova, Giulia o Giula, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. Essa discende dalla illustrissima casata romana Iulia. Il primo personaggio di cui abbiamo novella è un Nicolò Iula, conte di Satriano, marito di Angela di Capua, signora di Gifuni e della baronia di Inveria. Ursolina Iula, di loro figlia, contessa di Satriano, signora di Gifuni, Cortiggiano, Vairano, Presenzano, Alvignano e altri casati, sposò primieramente Lodovico di Ianvilla, giustiziere e viceré di Calabria. In seconde sposò il conte Berardo d'Aquino, da cui ebbe Iacopo, secondo conte di Satriano.
