I Jami sono originari di Pisa, dove nel 1331 Cone, di Lamo, risedè tra gli Anziani. Da Michele, di Cone, nacquero Lamo e Pietro, che nel 1372 erano consiglieri del comune di S. Croce sull'Arno, nuova residenza della famiglia, che ve la mantenne fino alla fine del sec. XVII quando Lorenzo, di Giovan Francesco, trasportò il domicilio in Livorno, patria della moglie Teresa, di Jacopo Adami. Nel 1739 il predetto Lorenzo domandò che gli fosse concessa l'aggregazione alla cittadinanza nobile di Siena, dichiarandosi pronto a trasferire la sua dimora in quella città. La richiesta fu accolta dalla Balia con partito del 19 settembre, e i figli di Lorenzo, Giovan Francesco e Filippo, dopo che il partito predetto ebbe ottenuta, non senza qualche difficoltà, l'approvazione granducale, furono aggregati al Monte del Popolo con decreto del 12 gennaio 1742. I medesimi, insieme con i fratelli mons. Giacomo e Luigi, vennero poi descritti
