Nel Regno trovasi feudataria fin dal 1239, e fu una delle sei famiglie Aquarie del Seggio di Porto. Questa famiglia ha goduto nobiltà, inoltre, nella città di Napoli, ai Seggi di Porto, Capuana e Montagna, Nola, Lucera, Capua, Benevento, Somma, Vico, Pozzuoli, Amalfi e Roma. Fu ricevuta nell'Ordine di Malta nel 1563 e trovasi ascritta al Libro d'Oro. Il ramo dei Baroni di Guardia Campochiaro si estinse nella famiglia de' Marchesi Cimaglia, Baroni di Bojano, nobili in Foggia. Il ramo della famiglia Principi di Sirignano, Baroni di S. Elia, Monacilioni, Starza, Correto e Frusarello, si estinse nella famiglia Caravita, nobili di Eboli. Il ramo della dinastia Duchi di Belforte e Cantalupo e Principi di S.
