Alte und adelige deutsche Familie, von klarer und angestammter Tugend, mit einem Hauptzweig in Österreich, der sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte weltweit ausgebreitet hat. Die ersten Hinweise auf die Familie finden sich bereits Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts, als in Ostpreußen ein Leycht Kast blühte. Anschließend trat im Jahre 1398 ein Jäk Kast als Burghauptmann von Füssen auf, während 1648 ein Walther Kast als Rechtsgelehrter in Hamburg residierte. Doch erst im 18. Jahrhundert tauchte die Familie dauerhaft in Wertheim auf, der Geburtsstadt von Johann Georg Carl. 1798 zog er als Nachfolger des Apothekers Merkel nach Nürnberg und erhielt in dieser Stadt die Bestätigung seines angestammten Adels. Wie auch aus einigen gemeinsamen Elementen in den Wappen hervorgeht, ist die in Österreich blühende Familie Kast von der gleichen Agnation wie die oben erwähnte. Sie zeichnete sich besonders durch Carl Theodor Kast (um 1795 - 19. Februar 1875), Statthalter von Ebelsberg im Traunviertel, aus,
