Originaria di San Giorgio la Montagna (ora S. Giorgio del Sannio), di chiare tradizioni patriottiche. Giacomo La Piscopia, capitano dei militi, fu perseguitato politico per i fatti del 1820. Suo figlio Nicola, venne coinvolto nel celebre processo dell'Unità Italiana e condannato a 30 anni di ferri. Scrisse pregevoli opere storiche e fu dopo il 1860, rappresentante di diversi collegi in Parlamento. Morì in S.Giorgio la Montagna il 26 agosto 1891. Nicola La Piscopia juniore, tenente dei granatieri, morì nel 1916 difendendo il monte Cencio e fu decorato della medaglia d'oro al valore militare. Con R.D. di concessione 8 marzo 1925 e RR. LL. PP. 10 gennaio 1926 questa famiglia fu decorata da S.M. il Re del titolo di barone in persona di Giacomo. La famiglia è iscritta nel Libro d'oro della Nob. Ital. e nell'El. Uff. Nob. Ital. col titolo di Barone (mpr.) in persona di Giacomo, di Nicola e
