Del noble linaje de la R. hubo casa solariega muy principal en la ciudad de Badajoz, de donde traen su orígen muchas de las familias que todavia se distinguen con este ilustre apellido. Don Alonso de la R. prestó señalados servicios al rey católico Don Fernando y a su nieto el emperador Carlos V, por los cuales mereció ser comendador de la órden de Santiago y primer conde de la Torela. El doctor Juan Martines de la R., descendiente de la casa de dicho Don Alonso de la R., conde de la Torela, fué auditor general del ejército en Italia: casó con Doña Antonia de la Rocha, del linaje de los Rochas Sanchez de Badajoz, que eran caballeros hijos-dalgo muy principales; y fueron padres del doctor Juan Martines de la R. y de Don Alonso de la R., que tuvo merced de una plata de continuo de Nápoles.
