La è una famiglia, dice Mugnos di chiarissima origine catalana perchè un Giovanni Perez de Algaria gentiluomo impiegato a' servizi di re Martino e di re Alfonso nel 1416 acquistò la castellania di Capopassaro col carico di custode maggiore delle marine della riva occidentale. Poichè si congiunse in matrimonio con Antonia Cassarino famiglia nobile di Noto, 1418 ivi fermò sua stanza. Da lui un Pietro altri ed in linea retta, che vissero con onorati carichi. Tra' personaggi più distinti troviamo un Almerico, che coll'appoggio del vescovo di Malta Corsetto suo zio fu tre volte capitano di quest'isola non che governatore di Gozo ed altri carichi si ebbe. Epperò i di lui figli Giovanni e Pietro non pochi servigi rendendo a Carlo V ottennero grossi compensi e quinci abitarono in Palermo, ove sostennero i migliori officii nobili. In questa linea troviamo un Gaspare che fu giurato nel 1607 e 1608 e
