Famiglia principalissima discendente da un Petrone che alla metà del secolo X era duca e marchese. Trasse il nome da un Lamberto, detto Lambertazzo, che viveva nel 1103 e lo diede alla fazione ghibellina in Bologna, tenendone il primato per mezzo secolo. Ebbe sette volte il supremo ufficio di console prima del 1211 e il governo dell'Ordine dei frati gaudenti, e diede fuori di Bologna ventun podestà. In patria fu sempre nemica dei Geremei, capi di parte guelfa; e nel 1274 fu costretta esulare. Ma ritornatavi dopo la pace conchiusa tra le due fazioni per opera del Papa Nicolò III, ottenne per sedici volte l'anzianato, dal 1351 al 1359. Giovanni-Ludovico Lambertazzi oratore facondo nel secolo XV; Fabruzzo poeta illustre; Azzo, prete, canonista di rinomanza. (Estinta nel 1408). Lo stemma della famiglia Lambertazzi di Bologna è: D'azzurro, al volo rovesciato d'argento; col capo d'oro, caricato da un'aquila nascente di nero.
