La famiglia ebbe principio in Catania, sotto il Re Federico II, da Guarnuccio Lamurata, Segretario del Re, già detto; da costui discesero un Federico Lamurata e un Pietro Lamurata, che furono paggi del Re Pietro II e, dopo, gentiluomini della Regina Margherita. Da Federico nacque Guarnuccio, che fu Barone dei feudi di Canicattini, Roccaspinalveti e della fontana della Mortilla, che dopo la sua morte, Agata sua moglie, per cagion di dote, si aggiudicò Canicattini, che poscia, lo dotò ad Allegrentia, sua figlia, sposata con Giovanni Castelli, mentre Pietro, figlio del già detto Guarnuccio, si sposò in Messina, e fu progenitore della nobile famiglia, la qual'è stata ricca d'assai cavalieri di pregio, e più di ogni altra fiorì nel 1584. Fra Gioseffo Lamurata, fu cavalier Gerosolimitano, e l'Avo di costui fu Galtano, che fu signor dei feudi di Spalla, Bigini, Mustrari, e Priolo, casato con Agata, sorella di Tommaso, Vescovo
