The family is believed to originate from the land of Trapani, where the family ruled. Federico moved to Rome in 1442 and his descendants obtained the Principality of Lauro from Emperor Charles VI in 1726. This family was the birthplace of eminent figures who covered the Sacred Purple and thus Scipio (1583), Horace (1611) and Filippo (1798). In the 16th century they conquered the highly coveted seat of the Conservatories of Rome and the inscription to the Roman Nobility with Paul in 1589, Ottavio in 1682 and Marquis in 1688. The family branch, Principi di S. Lauro, was not included among the Principles listed in 1854. His Holiness Pius IX, with his specific decree 19 January. 1865, allowed Don Filippo Massimiliano dei Principi Massimo to assume titles, coat of arms and name of the extinct family, in order to continue their lineage. He was the first prince of the family
