E' incerta l'origine dell'antichissima famiglia Landi. Il Muratori con altri storici e cronisti racconta che due nobili giovani di Bobbio recatisi a Piacenza per intrapprendere gli studi, ivi abitarono in una stretta viuzza presso la chiesa di S. Maria del Cario, per cui furono detti dell'Andito e in seguito indifferentemente da Landito, da lando, de Landamura, Landi. Il Poggiali, storico piacentino autorevole, rifiuta la spiegazione senza proporne altra e ricorda per primo un Bonizone dell'Andito console di Piacenza nel 1132. Nei primi del secolo seguente si distinse Guglielmo Dall'Andito, piacentino, che comandò le armi della Lega di Lombardia contro i Pavesi ed il marchese di Mantova, mentre Giannone capeggiava la fazione del popolo contro la nobiltà; Bonifacio Landi teneva a sua divozione Fiorenzuola ed Arrigo comandava la valle del Ceno e la valle di Taro, come appare dal cronista piacentino Locati.
