Famiglia assai antica ed illustre di origine normanna, portata in Sicilia da un Rolando Landolino, che ottenne la concessione della terra di Avola e che fu padre di Giorgio, stratego di Messina nel 1149. Per questo la famiglia è una delle più antiche e nobili di Sicilia, dove godette nobiltà nelle città di Noto, Catania, Palermo, ecc. Un Bartolomeo Landolino, il 23 genn. 1300, ottenne concessione del feudo Frigintini; un Rinaldo ottenne, il 2 nov. 1392, concessione del feudo Bauli e, il 17 novembre 1396, conferma dei feudi Belliscara, Benvini e Burgio; un Giovanni fu governatore di Noto sotto re Ludovico e sotto re Federico, ed egli stesso sarà quel Giovannuzzo, riportato dal Muscia come possessore dei feudi di Frigintini, Grampoli, Cammaratini; un Raimondo fu deputato al parlamento del Regno del 1398; un Simone il 23 aprile 1408 ottenne conferma del feudo Gisira; un Vassallo il 18 ottobre 1393 ebbe
