Die Familie Landriani gehört zu den ältesten und berühmtesten in Mailand. Die älteste Erwähnung findet sich in einer Spende an das Kloster S. Ambrogio in Mailand im Jahr 1053, zu der die Brüder Guido und Adalberto als Texte eingreifen. Guido selbst erscheint unter den Befürwortern Heinrichs IV., Die 1077 in Verona versammelt waren; und Guglielmo war 1061 Oberhaupt der Adligen gegen Ertembaldo, den Verteidiger des Volkes. Ein anderer Guido hatte 1176 das Amt des Rektors der lombardischen Liga inne und vertrat 1183 die Gemeinde Mailand.
