The Landriani family is among the oldest and most illustrious in Milan. The oldest mention of it is in an act of donation to the monastery of S. Ambrogio in Milan in the year 1053, to which the brothers Guido and Adalberto intervene as texts. Guido himself appears among the proponents of Henry IV gathered in Verona in 1077; and Guglielmo was head of the nobles against Ertembaldo defender of the people in 1061. Another Guido in 1176 held the office of rector of the Lombard league, in 1183 representing the municipality of Milan, he first signed the peace of Constance with the emperor Federico, and in 1205 he was consul of the municipality.
