La famiglia de' L. si trova fino dal suo principio Nobile, che fu uno chiamato Balito d'Oltrarno, quale si legge in queste Riformagioni di Fiorenza nell'Armario de' Capitoli lib. 26 so.29 come Personaggio cognito, essendo del Consiglio l'anno 1197, onde deve credersi, che il principio di questa Famiglia sia di gran lunga lontano dal sopraddetto Balito, ma non c'è riuscito di poterne rintracciare i suoi Ascendenti, quali secondo il Verino, e Piero di Giovanni Monaldi Scrittori Fiorentini gli fanno oriundi da Roma, e che venissero in questa Città Nobiltà quali riportandoci noi porremo in questo discorso quello, che ne dicono. Il Monaldi sopracitato nelle Famiglie Fiorentine dice nella Famiglia L. queste precise parole.
