Villabianca reports that this family, called Lanza, Lanzi or Lancea, originates from an Ernesto, Duke of Bavaria, a valiant leader who, around 970, was nicknamed "the captain of the great spear", hence the surname. He had two sons, Enrico and Corrado, who, settling in Lombardy and in the Kingdom of Naples, acquired many fiefs and lordships. In Sicily, the family was illustrated by a Bonifacio, lord of Anglona, who had four children: Galeotto, from whom descend the counts of S. Severino, Bianca, wife of Emperor Frederick II, Corrado of the counts of Caltanissetta, and Manfredi, baron of Sinagra. They are also worthy of special mention: a Pietro count of Cerami and baron of Naro; a Galvano first count of Fondi 1220; a Carlo stratigoto of Messina 1236; a Federico viceroy of Sicily 1258; a Galvano 2nd beheaded in Naples as partisan of his relative Corradino; a Corrado lord of Castel
