Antica famiglia divisa nella tre linee, di Alessandria, di Sant'Andrea e di Burio. Nelle più remote generazioni esistono molte incertezze. Stipite sicuro è Ottone, che fu console di Alessandria nel 1197. Guglielmo, suo figlio, secondo il Della Chiesa, acquistò il castello di Blonai nel contado di Loreto. Un suo nipote Iacopo, di Manfredi, fu capitano del popolo in Bologna nel 1273. Il primogenito di costumi, pur Iacopo, che viveva nel 1256, ebbe fra gli altri Guglielmo, che continuò la linea primogenita, e Michele, stupite di quella di Burio. Alla linea primogenita appartenne Manfredi, che viveva nel 1469, che fu signore di Basaluzzo. Questa linea si estinse nel 1729 con l'abate Gabriele, di Giuseppe. Michele, stipite della linea di Burio, ebbe fra gli altri, Ottone e Gerardo. Dal primo proviene la linea di Sant'Andra.
